What is a PIT count?

A Point In Time count is held once a year and counts sheltered and unsheltered people on a single night in January. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires an annual count to determine who is currently staying in emergency shelter and transitional housing in communities across the country. Volunteers and workers from agencies across our communities conduct this count, on the HUD assigned night.
